Do you feel lost, or on the wrong path in your life? Do adversities feel like an uphill climb on a steep mountain? That is how Betty Jean Shaw feels as she struggles with obstacles on her life's journey. After her divorce from Barry Shaw, an abusive alcoholic, Betty visits a counselor who enlightens her to a unique way to view life. Betty and her son Danny are encouraged by her childhood friend, Peggy Sanders, to pursue a new path. She becomes involved with Billy Larson, an unpredictable character who provides an escape for her; however, Danny has an intense dislike for Billy. After years of openly and discreetly seeing Billy she acknowledges life with him is like living on a rollercoaster. She meets and marries George Hazelton through an acquaintance service. George is a good man, an admirable stepfather for Danny, but she does not love him, which leads ot a complicated, emotional life and a secret- a character defect she does not want fixed. After the death of her husband and only child, she seeks solitude in Arizona and New Zealand. Betty's loneliness leads her to investigate Internet dating and explore different paths. Difficult and dangerous paths drive her to seek a peaceful meadow on her mountain in life and in the process she learns adversities provide opportunities.
